According to American Stoneware (Raycroft 30), molded ceramic or stoneware usually had minimal decoration and only 10 percent was signed or marked. In the 1870's and 1880's molded pottery became a common sight due to new mechanized technology production in the industry. For the most part, however, pottery began to diminish by the turn of the century as jugs and pitchers were being replaced with mass produced tin, glass and . aluminum. Nevertheless, some isolated operations stayed in business and continue to exist today. As a result, it is very difficult to pinpoint a date for the piece above. There is a possibility that it was a late eighteenth century item, but then again it could have been produced in the latter part of the twentieth century as well.
